| PASIAD EARTHQUAKE AIDS, PADANG-PARIAMAN-WEST SUMATRA, OCTOBER-2009 |
|
Two
“DAPUR UMUM”, one in PaSample Imagedang, one in Pariaman. Every day three thousand students and villagers having meal. In padang, the location of our POSCO is in SD Alang Lawas School Complex, where there are six state elementary schools enrolling 1,607 students and around 150 teachers and staff.
Headmasters, teachers, staff whoever available are working together with “Tukang Masak” every day to make the meal ready on time for more than 1,750 people everyday, preparing the meat, washing, cutting the cucumbers in slices, packaging the meal, etc. The other POSCO is in Sintuk Toboh Gadang, Pariaman where there is SMK Negeri 1 and a village besides, 450 students and all the villagers have nutritious meal evey noon. Many people from nearby villagers also come and get meal, sharing. Villagers are voluntarily working in the outdoors-kitchen in cooperation with school staff. The aim is to continue this food program as long as possible in accordance with the help from Turkiye mainly via the Turkish Aid Foundation “Kimse Yok Mu” and Pasiad schools, maybe at least until Idul Adha insyaAllah. A group of doctors from Turkiye, specialists in orthopedics, internal, family doctors and practitioners came, seperated in 3 teams, and worked checking the patients in remote villages from Pariaman, did vaccinations against Tetanus, checked all students and teachers at schools where there are “POSCO” and “Dapur Umum”, checked orphans in “Panti Asuhan” places, made surgery operations in M. Jamil Hospital, the biggest in Padang, which half-destroyed by the earthquake. They parcitipated in surgeries together with the Russian team of doctors and local team. From the beginning they worked in coordination with World Health Organization and Indonesian Ministry of Health (Dinas Kesehatan). The medicine used were either donated from Turkiye or other countries. Pasiad Indonesia facilitated the doctors in all matters, like translation, guiding, transportation, accomodation, etc. Elementary students in Alang Lawas, South Padang and students in Pariaman were happy with various gifts from “Kimse Yok Mu” and Pasiad. Children staying as patients in the M. Jamil Hospital also were given presents. The main problem there is the still continuing trauma, after the shock of the earthquake, many lives lost, many sad stories, all material gains lost, homes collapsed with everything inside or badly damaged, people afraid to go indoors with continuing trembles, many people trying to take care of their families and children, their shops or other source of income being lost. We were also afraid with the “retak retak” on the walls growing everyday. At these conditions we got many good comments from administratiors, parents, students and villagers against the general trauma. For instance the absence in schools where there was good meal everyday was almost none. Headmasters and school staff stated that food, doctors, and gifts helped students come to school, helped parents in their difficult condition, and greatly reduced the trauma right after the earthquake. Even children who usually don’t eat enough, now eat all the portion in their meal pack. |
